: : God, or the belief in 'a god', is what got the human race to where it is today,
: How do you figure it? I thought that technological innovation, exploration, exploitation of 3rd world labour and the advance of captialism has got us where we are today.
Exploration was mainly due to religion actually. You look at any piece of history, and usualy exploration had the same story... Back in the day of exploration, you just look at the catholic church. They had such a strong grip over civilzation, it was crazy. Sure money and trade had a big role too, i'm not saying it didn't, but religion played a HUGE role just as well...and at times overshadowed many things.. A good example was the Holy Crusades.....those were based almost solely on religion... And take a modern day capitalist, Stockwell Day...hardcore Christian man...feverishly believes in religion...many capitalists do... and technological innovation in my eyes Of course I am not saying this has anything to do with modern day life...i'm talking from a historical point of view, which of course doesn't mean anything in today's world. We have no queen, people are no where near as misinformed. The thing is tho, that religion has played such a HUGE role in the shaping of the human race it cannot be ignored....that's all i'm stating... : : and yet you propose that we now burn our bridges and ignore everything that your ancestors once founded this country upon? : What, killing the native people and taking their land? I'm only being half sarcastic here, since the main reason for exploration of North America was to look for gold and to exploit its natural resources. This hardly seems to have anything to do with religion. : : There are some things you can not prove, and this is one of them. Does that mean that you are weak because you follow the religion of your family? : I don't think I ever said anything suggesting this. I said that ignorance comes from ignoring logic, but I also said that it is still possible to believe in a god or gods and still think logically about it. Agreed, people are entitled to whatever they want to think when it comes down to it. You say you want logical explanations, and that's good. Sniper Wold has proved that he doesn't need logical explanations to create his own beliefs, and that's good too, and you have stated you do. That's what makes the "world work" in some sense, at least in my eyes.....if we were all logic, then I'd rename earth, Vulcan...:) and we know how much fun Vulcan's can be :) if we believed everything we hear, then of course, the world would still be in the dark ages....so a balance of the two has seem to create some sort of thing...ya :) Creation of Evolution?
1. Country wanted to become powerful and rich
2. King or Queen, wanted to lead that country
3. The main belief at the time
Once again when North America was first discovered, they were actually looking for a quicker route to China, it just happened they bumped into it
:)
