: : : God, or the belief in 'a god', is what got the human race to where it is today,
: : How do you figure it? I thought that technological innovation, exploration, exploitation of 3rd world labour and the advance of captialism has got us where we are today.
: If you look far enough back you can trace any modern day civilization from a foundation of religion.
BEEP BEEP, WRONG. Australia like it or not was founded by criminals. I don't remember which nation it was but their solution to crime was to ship the criminals off to australia and that's how it was founded.
If it weren't for religion as a driving force in those times, we may never have evolved to where we are today.
We MAY not have, but I think that even without religion people would have just found something else stupid to fight over like "my trees are greener than yours" "ACK, KILL KILL".
I realize that the 'discovery of america', and other modern examples are differnt...its a sad day for religion right now indeed. People have as a whole become skeptical and paranoid, and we are in an age now where people aren't afraid to question what they don't understand.
Yes that is true, mainly because if a couple hundred years ago I said what I am saying now I would be hung in the town square. I'd say that's a pretty good reason to pretend you believe.
: Let it also be said that in general people are often afraid of what they can not understand, and the existance of god is a prime example of this.
There's a big difference between don't understand and don't believe. I don't understand space and ya the idea of exploring it is kinda scary, BUT I KNOW space exists. Nobody KNOWS god exists.
